Culprit 006 SECT Man of Wisdom EP
New Boston supergroup SECT, featuring both members of Soul Clap, Mothership's Tanner Ross and Sergio Santos, are a breathing force infusing some mutineer mystery into the Culprit squad.

S - Sergio Santos, lifelong DJ tastemaker and Boston afterhours King.

E - Eli Goldstein, one half of Soul Clap, drum programmer extraordinaire.

C - Charles Levine, one half of Soul Clap, bassline master and melodic visionary.

T - Tanner Ross, studio wizard, puts the "UMP" in PUMP.

A secret society that channels the magic of their combined sounds to create something larger than life, SECT represents the future of American talent. Now, with the world of dance music teetering on the edge of change, SECT stands strong, united by a common goal to bring the torch back home - skillfully demonstrated by these three original cuts, each oozing with diverse ingenuity. From the leisurely jazz of 'Man of Wisdom' to the fantastical apparitions of 'Hi-Fi All Around' and mellow manner of 'SECTsy' this Boston gang have fashioned an approach to music that is all their own.

Culprit 005 Kenneth James Gibson Something In The Way EP
"Something In the Way" is the second single culled from Ken Gibson's (aka apendics shuffle/Reverse Commuter/Dubloner) ongoing Culprit recording sessions, which will yield a debut LP of original material in the Spring.

Ken's take on Culprit's new emerging West Coast sound sees him meld tech-influenced percussion and sweeping FXs with a mid-tempo housey groove. Adding further spice are come-hither vocals by Kelly Johnston, returning here for another Culprit turn, and a pulsating synth line layered underneath. The track's upbeat vibe with precise elements make for, possibly, Culprit's catchiest tune yet.

Ryan Crosson's remix offers a richly textured take that's made for packed dance-floors and proper sound systems. The original's swirling vocals are put through the FX ringer, with Ryan's signature rolling percussion keeping the track's groove packed tight and ready for dark room dancing. Crosson's own synth line creeps in half-way through and adds an acidy old school feeling to the proceedings.

Droog's debut release delivers a more stripped down and slower take on Gibson's track, opting to lose the female vocal in favor of spacier synth funk. Imbued with California sun, Droog's track is underpinned by playful percussion, a low-slung bassline riff and bursts of Ken Gibson's own vocals, making for a stoned groove that works equally well at the trio's preferred environs - the city's rooftops and early morning afterhours."
Culprit 004 INXEC & MATT TOLFREY Even in Hollywood EP
Following their remix of Kenneth James Gibson's 'Animals Tonight' on LA's Culprit label earlier this year, one of Britain's most exciting young production teams, Inxec aka Chris Sylvester and Matt Tolfrey, step up for a three track EP on Culprit, which also includes Matt Tolfrey's debut full solo production, 'The Other Side'.

Anyone who has been following dance music with attention over the last few years will need no introduction to Inxec and Matt Tolfrey. They are responsible for one of 2009's biggest dance floor bombs, "I Just (Can't Take it)", and their releases and remixes have graced labels including Cocoon, Crosstown Rebels, Murmur and Viva, and Contexterior.

A regular West Coast fixture over the last eighteen months, Tolfrey has made played five buzzed about shows in Los Angeles, followed by extended stays at Droog's Bunker studio. Inxec joined Tolfrey in the Droog production cave for an intense sojourn in September, and this EP is clearly informed by these LA experiences, with the duo channeling their own individual styles tuned in with Culprit's mischievous bent on tech-house.

Nowhere is this LA influence more apparent than on 'Hollywood'. This track pairs sunny house with a vocal sample from Malcolm X in which the civil rights icon cites both revolution and Hollywood, two major reference points of Culprit's left coast leaning philosophy. Across all three tracks Inxec and Tolfrey's playful sensibilities are apparent, leading to an EP brimming with dancefloor focused, uptempo, bright and contagious, techno-infused house music."
Culprit 003 LEE FOSS The Edge
There would be no Culprit without Lee Foss.

The night was July 7, 2007, the setting - the famed Avalon night club in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Droog favorite Jamie Jones was about to play the closing set on the main stage, just as it finished its set on the Terrace. That night, as fate would have it, was also the first meeting between Lee Foss and Droog.

Avalon 4 AM... Jamie Jones unleashes a new brand of house music on an unsuspecting LA audience. Post Club 7 AM...We crawl back to Droog's place and begin what by now seems like old hat; but not then, that day there was something fresh in the air as many of our now core crew of droogs and devotchkas got loose, for what some might call our first ever proper afterhours.

Downtown L.A. 1 PM... Jamie plays an impromptu set at the famed Downtown Standard Rooftop, at that point a mystical locale where only Justin Sloe had graced the decks. Back in West Hollywood 10 PM... smiles on faces, a tangible feeling that one could get used to this.

Now, some hundred Saturdays later, Lee Foss is set to unfurl his own sound, one developed through years of hard work in Chicago before even setting foot on California soil.

Lee took a leap of faith, leaving his friends, his family, and his place as the most versatile DJ in Chicago (and four weekly residencies to boot) and moved to a city with a rich rave past but without much connection to the euro-centric movement in underground house and techno.

Transporting his full studio to the (West Coast) Bunker and setting up shop, in the process laying the foundation for a new label and movement.
Culprit 002 KENNETH JAMES GIBSON Animals Tonight
Upstart Angeleno recording outfit Culprit presents the latest and greatest from local techno artisan Kenneth James Gibson, heretofore known by pseudonyms apendics.shuffle and eight frozen modules.

Now hear as his explosive ANIMALS TONIGHT combines the sultry, erotic vocals of Kelly Johnston with the bawdily obscene bass lines responsible for Gibson's cult following.

Listen closely as KJG at long last unearths the intensely revelatory FORGOTTEN NOTE, a comprehensive examination of psychedelia through the prism of Los Angeles.

This extended player exists as the initial exploration between Gibson and Culprit, look for the eagerly anticipated long player to reach the shelves in early 2010.
Culprit 001 HOT NATURED h.e.a.d.s. EP
Hot Natured is the combination of Jamie Jones (UK) and Lee Foss (LA). Friends since first meeting in Ibiza near the turn of the millenium, Jamie and Lee have created an entirely new sound, borne out of the Culprit studio in Hollywood, true to the label's mission of building the label organically, with music made in L.A. by people we love and inspired by playing at the Droog/Culprit Sessions which have now become infamous worldwide.

Supported by such dance music luminaries and long standing influences Damian Lazarus, Philipp Jung (M.A.N.D.Y.), Dan Ghenacia (Label Head Freak n' Chic), and Ewan Pearson, Culprit initial release also has attracted those new school artists that will make waves for years to come -- Ryan Elliott, Lee Curtiss, Matt Tolfrey, Shonky, and Gadi Mizrahi (Wolf and Lamb).
